Exploring the Local Area

A convenient 20 minute drive from Gatwick Airport, the Brambletye Hotel lies right in the heart of Forest Row village. Forest Row is ideal for the weekend leisure guest, romantic couple escape, business stayover or even historian on a discovery trail; Sussex has it all! Forest Row village is very much a quiet, relaxing and friendly place, with plenty of boutique shopping available, weekly village events and a variety of cuisine options. Our pretty little village sits right on the edge of the Ashdown Forest; an area of outstanding natural beauty, which provides a unique habitat for a wide range of rare plants, birds and wildlife.

Winnie the Pooh

However, Ashdown Forest is more famously known to you and me as the Hundred Acre Wood and is home to none other than Winnie the Pooh and his friends. The neighbouring village of Hartfield is home to ‘Pooh Corner’; a café and gift shop where you can also pick up a walking trail map of  the Hundred Acre Wood to go on your own little adventure to find Pooh Bridge, Kanga and Roo’s Sand Pit, Owls house and the infamous North Pole! Lovely easy walks for all the family with an added pinch of magic.

Sporting Venues

We are also in a great location for a range of sporting venues. There are a few excellent race courses within a 20 mile radius, a couple of examples of these are Lingfield and Plumpton and if you’re coming down for Saturday Race Day, why not join us for our Live Band night back at the hotel following the races to end your day with a party?!

We are very lucky have a large selection of beautiful golf course near by; Award winning Royal Ashdown, Chartham Park, Holtye, Effingham Park, Tilgate Forest and Hever Castle golf, just to list a few, so if you’re keen for a weekend of golf you should be staying with us.

The Great Outdoors

For those wanting to enjoy the Ashdown forest at a slightly different pace, it’s easy to arrange hiring mountain bikes or even going on a guided horse trail ride on the forest 7 days a week. For those who are not faint hearted, we also benefit from a fantastic choice of leisure centres’ specialising in rock climbing, abseiling, kayaking, rafting, 4x4 adrenaline driving and more.

Historic Houses and Days Out

For those hoping to enjoy a more relaxed day out, we are surrounded by medieval castles, English Heritage estates (Bayham Old Abbey, Pevensey Castle, the site of the Battle of Hastings) and National Trust sites (Standen House, Chartwell, Bateman’s) for you to enjoy, all of which we can happily advise you on at Reception.

For family days out with children, there are great number of activites and outings that can be taken from the Hotel, to share a few: Tulleys Farm, Weirwood reservoir (where there are is a range of activities including sailing and kayaking), Drusillas, The Llama Park, Deers Leap Bike Track and so many more!

English Wine Tastings

The very up and coming English Wine Industry. Sussex is one of the most celebrated counties in the country for its quality of wine, in particular its traditional method of making sparkling Wine which is now, regularly beating Champagne at their own game! We have a variety of wineries and cellar doors within a close range of the hotel just waiting for you to go and induldge in! For example: The Kingscote Estate in East Grinstead, Bluebell Vineyard in Uckfield or Bolney Wine Estate in Haywards Heath.

Steam Railways

For Steam Train enthusiasts, Forest Row boasts being in the heart of Steam Train County! There are at least 4 major steam train lines for you to choose from within a 20 mile radius, but we have a soft spot for the wonderful Bluebell Railway which sets off from our neighbouring town of East Grinstead.

Convenience

Brighton is just 40 minutes away from us, with buses running hourly to and from the city, directly outside the hotel. Brighton offers a colourful, cosmopolitan day out, with an abundance of shopping, a maze of cobbled laneways for those treasure hunting in the old part of town, the iconic Brighton Pier, fabulous foodie venues and quirky bars and so much more…just always keep one eye on the seagulls!

We are also only an hour’s train journey away from London, which of course is full of all sorts of museums, theatres, galleries and any and all other exciting things you can think of!
